Preventative Maintenance at a Holland Diesel Repair

Thu, 01/26/2012 - 15:23 -- owner

Traditionally, truckers have preferred diesels for their tough, reliable, easy-to-maintain traits that accompany them. And lately, many other vehicle owners have gone for them, too. Diesels are designed so the owner of the vehicle can easily and cheaply maintain the vehicle themselves without having to spend too much time or money at your local Holland Diesel Repair.

However, just because you have a diesel doesn’t mean you get to skip preventative maintenance altogether—here are a few things to keep in mind to make sure your diesel vehicle stays in the best shape possible:

When it’s cold out, be sure to let your diesel engine warm up. This allows for the oil to become less dense, which in turn takes a lot of pressure off the engine.

Make sure your diesel injection system is working correctly. Your engine should be lubricated periodically as well!

Diesels tend to use more air than gasoline powered vehicles do. This makes it very important to pay more attention to the air filtration system. A common practice is to install a plastic indicator on the side of the air filter housing. It will change colors soon as the air filter is dirty, prompting you to change it. Your local Holland Diesel Repair will help you install this part.

And be careful when selecting an oil filter—this is important because of sulfur residue and carbon that is created when the fuel isn’t burned completely. Putting synthetic oil in your engine will aid in this process because the additives in the oil won’t break down as easily.

If you have any questions regarding your diesel vehicle or are in need of any repairs, stop by and talk to an ASE-Certified technician at your reliable Holland Diesel Repair.
